My friend John, a retired
homicide detective, said that
he and his partner were sent
to investigate a complaint.

A woman had called to report
that her next-door neighbor
hadn't been seen for days
and that her dog was making

a lot of noise from inside the house.
Forcing their way into the house,
my friend and his partner found a woman
dead on the kitchen floor, her dog

having eaten what John lovingly
described as "the best parts of her".
